Ralphy Turner AKA Ill Effects was lucky enough to be exposed to jungle from a very early age, thanks to his older sister who at the time was a dj and promoter herself.

After hearing jungle for the first time he was hooked by the rolling drums and deep bass and had to get involved.

After countless hours of mixing lessons from his older sister and friends he finally got a set of soundlab belt drives and began collecting records.

Lots of money and a set of 1210′s later Ill Effects began playing out at various house parties and it wasn’t long before he was invited to play at the Forum in Tunbridge Wells, and following that began to get deeper into the local Drum & Bass scene playing more and more night’s.

After mixing other peoples music for so long it was time to get into a studio and see how it was done. Ill Effects first started out with a Roland JX305 and an Akai MPC1000 and from that point on he’d found a new passion!

Slowly he began playing out less and spending more time focusing on production, sure enough the limits of using just a synth and sampler to make music were starting to show, so it was time to invest in some new gear.

After trying out all sorts of software he eventually stumbled across Fl Studio and has never looked back, instantly falling in love with the ease of cutting up samples and creating his own sounds.

These days Ill Effects spends as much time as he can producing the deeper darker more atmospheric side of Drum & Bass and when he’s not doing that he’s learning and experimenting with different sound design techniques, so watch this space as Ill Effects continues to grow, develop and evolve his sound.
